RULES OF THE EVENT „Polish Beatbox Battle 2024”
1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
- Polish Beatbox Battle is the official Polish beatbox championship.
- The event is organized by FUNDACJA INSTYTUT BEATBOXU, NIP: 5214046858, KRS: 0001071986, REGON: 52705530300000, Nest Bank account: 42 2530 0008 2060 1079 7188 0001, ul. OKĘCKA 8 / 2, 02-658 WARSZAWA, hereinafter referred to as the „Organizer”.
- The event takes place at Terminal Kultury Gocław, Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego 24, 03-984 Warsaw.
- The event is held on July 4-7, 2024 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On July 6, 2024, the qualifiers will take place to select the participants in the SOLO category for the battles. The final battles will take place on July 7, 2024, to determine the winners in each category.
- The Organizer reserves the right to collaborate with other entities, which will become co-organizers of specific elements of the event.
2. DEFINITIONS
- Participant – any natural person who is a member of the event.
- Competitor – any natural person who actively participates in the competition.
- Prize – the prize for the winners in each category are as follows:
- 1st place: Advancement to the World Beatbox Championship, giving the right to represent Poland at the World Beatbox Championships, prizes funded by partners: Lewitt, Boss, PSP Audioware, Sante
- 2nd place: prizes funded by partners: Lewitt, Boss, PSP Audioware, Sante.
- 3nd place: prizes funded by partners: Lewitt, Boss, PSP Audioware, Sante.
- Prizes will be awarded on-site immediately after the winners are selected, during the Award Ceremony.
- Winners cannot transfer the right to the prize to third parties. They also do not have the right to specify the particular characteristics of the prizes or receive a cash equivalent. Prizes are not exchangeable for any other prizes.
3. EVENT PROCEEDINGS AND RULES:
- Polish Beatbox Battle takes place in a „face to face” battle format. It is a form of artistic competition where participants use sounds made mainly with their mouths to demonstrate their superiority over their opponent.
- Battles take place on stage between participants who have passed the qualifiers. During the battles, participants use microphones with the same or similar settings. The outcomes of the battles are decided by a jury.
- Polish Beatbox Battle is held in three categories:
- SOLO (women and men together),
- TAG TEAM (2 people),
- LOOPER (1 person with a looper)
- JUNIOR (ages 11-15, youth 16+ participates in SOLO category)
- One participant can register for all the main categories (except JUNIOR) if they meet the requirements.
- Competitors in the SOLO category are selected in several stages. First, online qualifiers through Wild Cards, submissions last 90 seconds, max 120 seconds including the introduction. Based on the wild cards, we proceed to on-stage qualifiers (36 people), from which we select the Top 16, including the previous edition’s champion (1 person) and the wild card winner (1 person). In the SOLO category, competitors have 90 seconds (1 minute and 30 seconds) in the qualifiers. If the previous edition’s champion does not confirm their participation in the battle, 15 people plus the wild card winner will proceed based on the qualifiers.
- In the TAG TEAM and LOOPER categories, all competitors are selected based on wild cards, which should be respectively:
- LOOPER – 180 seconds (3 minutes),
- TAG TEAM – 120 seconds (2 minutes).
- The jury will select the following participants in each category:
- SOLO – 16 people,
- TAG TEAM – 8 teams (or if the number of entries is less than 8 – 4 teams)
- LOOPER – 8 people (or if the number of entries is less than 8 – 4 people)
- Battles will be held in a knockout system:
- SOLO qualifiers, Top 32 (32 Competitors),
- 1/8 finals, Top 16 (16 Competitors),
- 1/4 quarter-finals, Top 8 (8 Competitors),
- 1/2 semi-finals, Top 4 (4 Competitors),
- battle for third place (2 Competitors),
- grand final (2 Competitors).
- In each category, competitors will have the following times for battles:
- SOLO – in qualifiers (Top 32) 1×90 s (1×1.5 min)
- SOLO – in Top 16 and above: 2×90 s (2×1.5 min),
- JUNIOR – 1×90 s (1×1.5 min)
- TAG TEAM – 2×120 s (2×2 min),
- LOOPER – 2×180 s (2×3 min).
4. WILD CARD
- A Wild Card is a form of competition that allows a Competitor to be admitted to the competition by presenting their skills in a video recording. A Competitor can receive it if they meet the conditions specified below by the Organizer.
- Winning a Wild Card gives the Competitor the opportunity to qualify for the knockout stage. In the SOLO category, this is the top 32 participants, in TAG TEAM and LOOPER 4 or 8 best (depending on the number of entries).
- Last year’s Polish Champion in each category automatically advances to the knockout stage and is placed first in the ranking of competitors.
- To select the winners of the Wild Card, the Organizer conducts an online competition, the outcome of which is decided by a Jury appointed by the Organizer.
- The „Wild Card” competition runs from June 1, 2024, to June 15, 2024. After this period, the Organizer will announce the winners within 7 business days.
- Qualifiers for all competition categories are conducted as part of the „Wild Card” competition.
- To participate in the competition, you need to record a beatbox set in the form of a video. Then the Participant should publish the video with good sound quality on their YouTube channel and include their nickname and the hashtag #pbb2024dzikakarta in the description.
- The video should meet the following criteria:
- properly labeled: Name (Nickname) – Wildcard Polish Beatbox Battle 2024,
- time – not shorter than 60 seconds (1 minute) and not longer than 120 seconds (2 minutes) (including the introduction),
- content – not violating good manners and rights of third parties.
5. PARTICIPATION TERMS
- Only those who have reached the age of 16 by July 4, 2024, can participate in the main categories of the event, i.e., SOLO, TAG TEAM, LOOPER.
- Persons aged 11-15 can participate in the JUNIOR category with written parental consent.
- Persons between 16-18 years old can participate in the main categories with written parental consent.
- Competitors should present themselves to the reception desk no later than 1 hour before the start of their category. This rule applies to all competition categories. The competition office will be open from 10:00 AM on the days of the competition.
- In each competition category, the starting lists will be announced at least 3 days before the start of the competition on the event’s official website (www.instytutbeatboxu.com). Competitors must confirm their participation by e-mail or phone.
- In the case of a competitor’s absence or failure to confirm participation, the Organizer has the right to select another person to participate in the competition from among those who submitted applications and videos in the „Wild Card” competition.
6. COMPETITION JURY
- The jury will evaluate the participants based on the following criteria:
- musicality
- technical skills
- creativity
- stage presence
- execution and complexity of beat patterns
- originality
- The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
- The jury members will be announced by the Organizer no later than 7 days before the start of the event.
7. HEALTH AND SAFETY
- The Organizer ensures that the event will be conducted following all health and safety regulations applicable in Poland at the time of the event.
- All participants must comply with the health and safety guidelines provided by the Organizer.
- In the case of non-compliance with the health and safety guidelines, the Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the participant from the event.
9. RIGHTS TO MATERIALS AND IMAGE
- By participating in the event, competitors consent to the use of their image, name, and voice for promotional and informational purposes related to the event, including but not limited to publications, broadcasts, recordings, and online content, without any compensation.
- The Organizer has the right to record, broadcast, and publish all aspects of the event, including but not limited to battles, interviews, and backstage footage, across various media platforms.
- Competitors who do not wish to be recorded or photographed must inform the Organizer in writing before the event.
10. LIABILITY
- The Organizer is not liable for any accidents or injuries that may occur to participants during the event, including those caused by negligence or failure to comply with the rules.
- The Organizer is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings of the participants.
- Participants are required to have their own insurance covering any potential injuries or damages that may occur during the event.
11. FINAL MATTERS
- These rules are binding for all participants of the event. Participation in the event is tantamount to accepting these rules in full.
- The Organizer reserves the right to make final decisions on any matters not covered by these rules.
- Any disputes arising from the interpretation or application of these rules will be resolved by the Organizer. The Organizer’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.
- These rules are effective from the date of publication on the event’s official website.
